About Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan was a former Soviet country located in Central Asia. Mosques, mausoleums, and other sites connected to the Silk Road—the historic trade route that connected China with the Mediterranean—are what make it famous. One of the most notable examples of Islamic architecture in Samarkand, a key city along the road, is the Registan, a plaza surrounded by three elaborate religious schools from the 15th and 17th centuries, each decorated in mosaics.
